We’re ice cream obsessed and proud of it.

lu•lu began with a simple belief: ice cream should taste honest. Not manufactured or mysterious, but pure and intentional. We craved something that celebrated local flavors and the changing seasons. Something made with care and transparency, where every ingredient had purpose. This is lu•lu's story—a return to ice cream as it should be.

Hi friends!

I'm Laura Mack, the not-so-culinary-trained but ice cream-obsessed owner of lu•lu. To me, lu•lu isn't just a name – it's a noun that embodies something remarkable and wonderful, like a "lulu of a performance."

And that's exactly what we strive for with our small-batch, farm-to-spoon ice cream.

My playground wasn't your typical sandbox or swing set. Instead, it was my family's farm-to-table restaurant, Mary's Restaurant at the Inn at Baldwin Creek. As a kid, my chef-owner dad, Doug Mack, would hitch me to a carrier pack on his back while he worked the line. I grew up in the heat of that kitchen, learning from an early age that success depends on a strong commitment to customer satisfaction, quality, and a constant focus on the job at hand. Little did I know, these lessons would become the foundation for my own sweet adventure.

From weekend experiments to a full-time passion.

Fast forward to adulthood, and I found myself with an ingrained culinary aptitude and a taste for locally sourced fare. In 2013, my sister's ice cream experiments lured me back from NYC every weekend to help kickstart lu•lu.

A year later, I bid farewell to city life, job, and apartment, realizing that ice cream was my true calling. In the summer of 2014, I channeled my know-how into something sweet: lu•lu, a "farm-to-spoon" ice cream shop on Bristol's Main Street – just three miles down the road from Mary's.

In 2018, we moved lu•lu to its current location in the heart of Vergennes, Vermont's smallest city. Here, the performance doesn't end with a batch of churned cream. We make our add-ins from scratch, too – from the lemon-poppy-seed cake in our Orange Blossom ice cream to the chopped chocolate wafers in our Cookies + Cream. Even our rainbow sprinkles are naturally colored with fruits and veggies!

We call it our farm-to-spoon mission and we swear you can taste the difference.

Our Mission

Holy cow (and goat)!

You're about to get the inside scoop on what makes lu•lu special—beyond just being that spot with the five-foot cone hanging above our door and the line that wraps around the block!

From kitchen to cone, we're ridiculously committed to doing things the hard way. No pre-made mixes here! We're elbow-deep in cream straight from Monument Farms Dairy cows grazing just miles away. We pasteurize EVERY batch ourselves (yep, that's rare in the ice cream world), because when you taste the difference, there's no going back.

And because we believe everyone deserves a little sweetness, we've churned out something extra special: our Lactose-Free Goat Milk Gelato! Why goats? They're not just cute—their milk is naturally easier to digest AND supports our local farm partners. Talk about having your ice cream and eating it too!

Behind every scoop is our wonderful lu•lu crew, our amazing local ingredient partners, and a whole lot of Vermont heart. We've scooped up a few awards along the way (winner of the inaugural Northeastern Dairy Product Innovation Competition—who'd have thought?), but what really makes us melt is seeing your smile with that first bite.

So come on in and taste what happens when a restaurant kid (that's me, Laura!) grows up to follow her sweet dreams, one perfectly crafted scoop at a time!
